How To Extinguish Necrophobia, The Fear Of Death

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Among the most common fears is necrophobia, the fear of dying. This devastating fear affects many sufferers and can arise regardless of a person's age, health, or personal beliefs. It is a fear that may have far ranging consequences on a person's life. Often, people are afraid of anything that can be linked to death, such as funerals and wakes, or less obviously, hospitals and scary movies. In severe cases, the fear leaves sufferers crippled with fear. Although this fear is among the most severe, through knowledge and therapy, people can completely work past this phobia.

Most people can understand the fear of death, but when an individual experiences a phobia, they suffer from more serious, life-altering sensations of fear that can impair their day-to-day lives. Necrophobia itself can lead to intense feelings of dread, paranoia, and severe panic attacks. Phobia sufferers frequently feel terrified of circumstances in which they are not in complete control.

Although a few individuals experience fear all the time, in others, it is only set off by specific events or sights. For some individuals, the fear of death may arise after a life-changing incident such as watching a loved one pass away. The phobia is distinguished overall by the overwhelming feeling of an intense, irrational fear of death, dying, and anything linked to death.

Necrophobia is not often as simple as it appears. This is seen because the phobia is linked to pain, fear of illness, fear of uncertainty, and other underlying anxieties that make it challenging to overcome. This complexity can be handled by a treatment designed to work against several phobias. Such is the case with a comprehensive hypnosis and NLP program.

Phobias can be treated in a number of ways. Successful treatments include counseling and other forms of therapy such as hypnosis therapy, NLP, anti-stress medication, and relaxation techniques. Hypnosis used with with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques tends to have among the highest success rates among the various treatment options because it uses several innovative ways of confronting fears and relieving anxiety.

A hypnosis therapy program begins with anxiety fighting techniques that make the mind receptive to phobia-extinguishing suggestions. Treatment of stress and anxiety is an integral part of fear treatment because it is believed to be the first step in preventing anxiety attacks and preventing negative, fear-generating mental images.

Systematic desensitization techniques combined with the state of hypnosis are another effective mechanism of treatment. Under hypnosis, a subject is gently guided into visualizations of fear-triggering situations and is taught how to release anxiety. After successful treatment, users are able to stay rational and calm under circumstances which normally trigger fear. Patients also report that thoughts that previously lead to fear no longer cause them distress. Systematic desensitization may also be conducted without the use of hypnosis, but it then becomes a more challenging, lengthy and intensive process.

The NLP Visual/Kinesthetic Disassociation is frequently seen as the most productive technique to dissipate strong fears. This technique helps people "disassociate" their fears from the root, unconscious images that trigger a panic attack, in a process that allows them to rapidly "snap out" of the feeling of fear. Due to this, treatments with the V/K Disassociation are often called "instant" phobia cures by their creators and patients alike.

Hypnosis has taken advantage of highly advanced techniques for tackling the root of fears. Ericksonian hypnosis, so named after its inventor, Dr. Milton Erickson has proven effective in helping to re-work the unconscious thought processes responsible for a phobia. Using metaphorical language, it automatically guides the unconscious mind into a fear-free thought process. In a similar process, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is used to redirect the unconscious thought processes. With the NLP Flash, fear provoking thoughts will automatically be reversed to eliminate the fear instead, achieving automatic phobia relief.

Necrophobia can be successfully treated even when it is very severe. Traditional techniques teamed with hypnosis can accelerate the cure process, while novel hypnosis techniques work at the unconscious level to eliminate anxiety and fear. The non-invasive nature of hypnosis also renders it a safe treatment option as it can reduce or eliminate the need for anti-anxiety medication. Phobia sufferers regularly report dramatic, life-altering effects arising from hypnosis. For many people experiencing the fear of death, hypnosis provides a positive form of relief.
