The difference between legends and everyone else isn't talent. It's that they pursued excellence relentlessly. They focused on getting good at their game, not just playing it.

The Smart Trader's Trap

Most traders are above-average people. Think about it—you've got $25K, $50K, maybe $100K+ of your own money to trade. That doesn't happen by accident.

You've achieved success in other areas by pursuing excellence and maintaining high personal standards. But here's where most of us go wrong with trading:

We look at it and think, “This is simple. I get it. I just need to stick to my strategy.”

Trading isn't just a psychological issue. It's a multi-skill occupation with a complete range of abilities you need to master.

Think about golf. You understand the game, you know what you're supposed to do. Are you ready for the PGA tour? Of course not.

But with trading, we think: “I get it, I know what to do, so why is this so hard?”

After blowing up my first account, I had to admit something painful: I wasn't nearly as good at trading as I needed to be.

I was:

• Chasing money instead of focusing on getting good
• Chasing strategies instead of building skills
• Chasing profits instead of respecting the profession

This Is the Big Leagues

When you're trading stocks or currencies, you're playing in the major leagues. This isn't poker night with buddies or a friendly football bet.

If you want to play in the big leagues, you better show up ready to perform at that level. Your subconscious knows when you're not prepared—that's where the stress and emotions come from.

The Self-Sabotage Nobody Talks About

Just because you can win sometimes doesn't mean you're good at it. Most of us are winning largely on luck, not skill.

We hit a winning streak and think, “Yeah, I've got this!” But we're not winning in a knowing manner with:

• A clear process and strategy
• The skill to execute it well
• Properly built confidence in our system
• Confidence in ourselves

What You Really Need

It's not about fixing psychological “mommy-daddy issues” from childhood. You've been successful everywhere else in your life—you have the personal assets.
