What caught my attention about Patrick when I first ran across him was the title on his LinkedIn Profile, “Helping late career changers become profitable professional FX traders in 12 months.” When I saw that, I thought it was very cool because so many people really do want to become full-time traders so they can live life with more freedom and control.

Patrick definitely has had an unconventional unique path on his trading journey and today we get to hear about that plus what he has going on today – and he has unique perspectives on the markets and what to expect.

Topics from the interview

  • How Patrick went from a career in television, even a food channel at one point, to discovering trading and working on the pit floor to start
  • His transition to working with big institutional investors and the spot desk, learning from companies like EdgeWater
  • How he and his business partner decided to start Adamis Principle to help retail and institutional traders alike, looking to give back to the trading community
  • How he noticed that even at the institutional level, about 50% of the traders out there don’t have a clue
  • How he still does his daily journaling with paper and pen even 15 years in
  • Why he chose to focus on “late career changers”, those with ‘golden handcuffs’, to give them a chance for the change they seek in life
  • How curiosity, grit and passion are the characteristics he seeks in those he works with
  • How his training is different from most out there, both in what he teaches, his approach, and most importantly his involvement with his students
  • His current focus on FX, the dollar and the macro environment and the inter-workings of the players in the financial space, plus where things are going
  • How Patrick sees Powell as pragmatic and doing well compared to other public figures in the financial space
  • The many people who’ve been supportive and helpful on his path as a trader, particularly how gracious people have been, smarter than him and encouraging him to keep asking questions, especially his current business partner Adam
  • His two favorite books, Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas, and Murphy’s Technical Analysis, plus of course Market Wizards for inspiration
  • What it’s like to work with him and how you have access to him, to really be available to help you
