Trading Psychology – Trouble Sticking To Your Trading System?

Having trouble sticking to your system?

Is it possible that you are trying to trade without a real system?

No, I’m not being sarcastic or funny.

So many traders come to me looking for help with their confidence or discipline, just wanting to be able to stick to their system.

But what we find rather quickly is that they don’t really have a system.

They have a strategy (sometimes, not all the time).

They have an idea for a system.

But they don’t really have a trading system.

“How can this be?” you ask.

Well first you have to understand the difference between a strategy and a system.

A strategy is the general plan for getting in and out of the markets to make money.

Strategies would include,

  • spot a trend, get in early, ride it for a while, then get out when it’s exhausted
  • pick tops and bottoms, looking for market reversals
  • scalping
  • pattern trading
  • and of course many many more

The system is the details on specifically how you’ll execute that strategy on a repeated basis.

Your system is the detailed step-by-step what to do for placing your trades.

The BIG problem

You may have a very sound strategy, but…

…if your system, your step-by-step guide for identifying and executing trades is lacking, then you WILL have difficulty trading it.

Over the last several years, I’ve had traders coming to me for help with their confidence, discipline, hesitation and other issues.

About 98% of the time, we found that they had issues with their system.

The cool thing is, that once their system was fixed, the other issues were relatively easy to address.

If you are having trouble sticking to your system, it is VERY likely that your system is lacking the necessary qualities to make it comfortably “trade-able”.

No amount of forced discipline will fix a broken system either.

The problem will just continue until you address the root cause.

If you’re ready to end the cycle of stress, anxiety and beating yourself up for not being disciplined as you should, there is a very sensible and simple solution.

P.S.  Seriously!  If you don’t have your system truly systemized, (AKA a real trading system), then you will NEVER be able to stick to it!

Confidence and consistency will forever elude you without it

Take this simple step and fix the real problem.  It is a life-changing event! 😀
